The men of Sigma Nu at Oklahoma State University are proud to announce that we have paired with Folds of Honor for our annual Temple Classic Volleyball Tournament. This event started in 2001 in memory of our brother Brady Bechtel, who was involved in a car accident in 2000, which left him paralyzed and eventually led to his passing. We have had the opportunity to benefit various organizations over the years, and are extremely excited to work with Folds of Honor this year.
Folds of Honor is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. Our educational scholarships support private education tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents. Founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq, Folds of Honor is proud to have awarded scholarships in all 50 states, as well as Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including more than 2,800 in 2016 alone. There are 20 Folds of Honor scholarship recipients who are able to attend Oklahoma State this year due to fundraising efforts such as this one.
In the past four years, our tournament has raised over $85,000 in total, and this year our goal is to raise $25,000. We hope to not only meet but exceed this goal in order to provide as much assistance as possible to those military families that benefit from Folds of Honor.
